Stuttgart Rathaus
You may be surprised to see the Rathaus (town hall) listed first. The building is not at all beautiful, but it houses one of only 2 or 3 Pater Noster elevators that are still running today. The elevator has no doors! Instead it is a series of compartments that will fit 2 people. The compartments are all attached and rotate in a continuous loop. You step in as the compartment reaches the level of the floor, then you step out once you have arrived on your destination floor. They never stop! It is defiantly worth seeing.
Stuttgart Television Tower
Built from 1954-56, Stuttgart's Television Tower (or Fernsehturm) has become a symbol of the city. Still in use today, broadcasting several radio stations and Germany's ARD television.
The tower has the best view of Stuttgart and on a clear day you can see all the way to the Alps. For 3 Euros (2 for children) you can go to the top to enjoy the view. For $50 extra you can have a guided tour of the tower and learn the history. Open from 9:00am to 10:30 pm you can view the city in the day or observe the beautiful lights.
For those special occasions there is a Panorama Restaurant on top. I would call ahead for a reservation to be on the safe side, and I understand that the meals are not cheap.
Though there are many beautiful places to view the city, for 3 Euros you may as well go to the top! What a deal!
