Located south of Heidelberg and north of Heibronn,
Bad Wimpfen is a beautiful rustic German town, filled with half-timber houses, located on the Neckar river.
In 1930 Bad Wimpfen earned the "Bad" in its name. The "Bad" means "bath" and indicates that it is a spa town. The salt in the surronding hills gives Bad Wimpfen some of the most popular salt water spas in the region.
The main attractions in Bad Wimpfen include the Blue Tower (Blauer Turm) which was built around the 1200's. It is free to climb, but you have to pay a few Euros to enter the observation deck. The view is worth tackling the stairs.
Next to the Blue Tower is the Town Church. It was originally a Romanesque Church, however in the 1200's the original was pulled down and the current, impressive gothic church was built.
Another site in Bad Wimpfen is the Neo-Gothic railway station. It was built in 1868 and now contain tourist information along with a restaurant/cafe.
